RBC INSURANCE, HOCKEY CANADA & HOCKEY HALL OF FAME RECOGNIZE KENORA VOLUNTEER Northwestern Ontario’s “RBC Local Hockey Leader” awarded $10,000 for hockey in his community
Russell Desjarlais, a multi-tasking hockey volunteer in Kenora, will be recognized in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto
Desjarlais is this year’s RBC Local Hockey Leader for Northwestern Ontario, one of 13 volunteers (one for each Hockey Canada branch) recognized today by RBC Insurance, with support from Hockey Canada and the Hockey Hall of Fame. The winners, who will also receive a signed Team Canada jersey, were chosen from hundreds of nominations received from across the country.
RBC Insurance will donate $10,000 to a local hockey cause in Desjarlais’ name. Desjarlais is also invited to attend a special ceremony on April 28, 2008, unveiling a display honouring the 2007-08 RBC Local Hockey Leaders at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. A banner recognizing his achievement will also be raised in the local arena.
Future Team Canada Program The Wayne Gretzky Foundation and Team Canada have teamed up to reward and recognize thirteen minor hockey teams from around Canada for the amount of heart they show rather than the amount of games they win. Frisby has the SKILLS
Hockey Northwestern Ontario is pleased to announce that Samuel Frisby of the Ignace Phantoms will be representing H.N.O at the Peewee IIHF Skills Challenge. The skills challenge is set for May 2nd-May 4th in Quebec City at the World Hockey Championships.
